SEGA Deals: Black Friday Edition

It may not be the best time to be a SEGA Nerd, but it sure isn’t a bad time to be a video game fan. Case in point: Black Friday. Can you imagine what life would have been like in 1993 if Black Friday was as big a thing as it is now? I’m pretty sure I would have saved up all my summer lawn-mowing cash for this glorious day, snagging games like Phantasy Star III or Truxton at $10 a pop. Sure, it was a different time and discs cost way less to produce, so my alternate history is certainly a fantasy, but damn it would have been a good way to live.

That isn’t Santa coming down the air vent, Ms. Ripley…

Well, back to the future of 2014, and the Black Friday sales flyers are all present and accounted for. While there isn’t a ton of SEGA goodness to be had, I’ve whittled away the fat (the chubby, Italian plumber fat, that is) to offer you what you really want for Christmas: the SEGA Deals. Both Best Buy and GameStop will have Alien: Isolation for $30, but you want to know the coolest deal is in my opinion? Getting a brand spankin’ new SEGA Genesis for $30 at Toys R Us. It comes loaded with several games including the Sonic the Hedgehog and Streets of Rage series… and Arrow Flash?!? Friggin’ sweet! Plus, it still has a cartridge slot to play any ol’ cart you have lying around. You can also grab a Colecovision Throwback console and 60 built-in games (no cartridge slot) for the same price, which includes two SEGA titles, Space Fury and Zaxxon!

SEGA’s Space Fury on Colecovision. You know you want to play it…

Keep in mind, even though only specific platforms are listed for some games, often these deals are available across multiple consoles. Also, Target is promising big discounts on “hundreds of games” despite showing only a handful in the ad, so the chances of some SEGA titles squeaking in there are pretty good. And just think, this we don’t even know the full extent of Amazon’s deals yet.

It is indeed a good time to game, SEGA Nerds. Happy shopping!
