Get a first look at the SEGA consoles in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania

When Banana Mania launches on Oct. 5th, players can purchase the SEGA Legends DLC Pack to play as a SEGA Saturn, Game Gear, or Dreamcast.

Not long after SEGA first revealed Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, the company announced the SEGA Legends DLC Pack. This pack brings a bunch of classic SEGA consoles as characters into Banana Mania, including the Saturn, Game Gear and Dreamcast. And recently, we got our first look at what these consoles will look like in the final game.

Looking at it objectively, it’s just 3D models of the consoles placed into a sphere. And yet we can’t deny there’s an odd charm in picturing a SEGA Saturn tumbling down a Monkey Ball stage.

Check out the consoles in action below:

Who else joins the SEGA consoles in Banana Mania?

In addition to these classic SEGA consoles and the returning Monkey Ball cast, players also have the choice to play as Beat from Jet Set Radio, Sonic and Tails, and Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza. Morgana from Persona, Hello Kitty, and Suezo from Monster Rancher will also be available as paid DLC characters.

Instead of collecting bananas, each of these characters grab items relevant to their series. As some users on Twitter joked, this hopefully means the SEGA Game Gear will collect AA batteries — because we all know you’ll need a ton to play with it for long.

The SEGA Legends Pack is included with the Digital Deluxe bundle of the game, but other Banana Mania players can purchase these “ball-ified” SEGA consoles as DLC for $4.99 at launch. Other DLCs include the Classic Character Pack, unlocking retro skins for each monkey; the Customization Pack, a set of unique pink cosmetics; and the Classic Soundtrack, giving players access to the games’ original tunes.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and will be released on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. The game will launch on Oct. 5, 2021. Retail prices are $29.99 USD for standard editions and $39.99 USD for deluxe versions.
