Hello Kitty is coming to Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania as DLC

The Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania guest roster keeps on growing, this time with an unexpected pop culture icon. Sanrio’s world-famous Hello Kitty — yep, that Hello Kitty — is joining the game. The character will be available as DLC when the game releases on Oct. 5th.

Everything we know about Hello Kitty in Banana Mania

You already know who Hello Kitty is, but for posterity, she’s a cute cat mascot created by Japanese company Sanrio in 1974. Hello Kitty (whose real name is Kitty White) has been used to sell products from handbags to sandals to backpacks, and from this, a Hello Kitty media franchise followed. She’s been in anime, manga, music albums, and yes, even a number of video games. Now, Hello Kitty is gracing the Monkey Ball franchise with her addition to Banana Mania.

Rather than picking up bananas, Hello Kitty picks up apples as she rolls through the stages of Banana Mania. Even with the character being so instantly recognizable, she’s also a natural fit in the Monkey Ball series. Hello Kitty joins the likes of Sonic and Tails, Beat from Jet Set Radio, Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza, and Morgana from Persona as part of the game’s guest roster.

This is the first instance of a non-gaming character joining the Monkey Ball series. A collaboration with Hello Kitty makes sense, as SEGA and Sanrio have partnered together before. With just over a month until the game releases and weekly character announcements since the beginning of August, will there be another one announced? Only time will tell, but the prospect seems likely.

Hello Kitty will be available to purchase as DLC for $4.99 when Banana Mania launches on Oct. 5.

Daniel Hein

Daniel Hein is either A) a lifelong video game fanatic, writer, and storyteller just sharing his thoughts on things, or B) some kind of werewolf creature. We're not quite sure which yet. He also makes mediocre video game retrospectives (and other content!) on YouTube where you can watch him babble on for hours about nothing.
