Twitter user @AupTheLunatic recreated Super Monkey Ball with Game Builder Garage on Nintendo Switch.
On Aug. 14, @AupTheLunatic tweeted showcasing gameplay from Monkey Ball Garage. The creator explains that it took four weeks to produce the game due largely in part to the sprite creations. Everything in the game, from the sprites to the HUD was drawn from scratch by @AupTheLunatic using a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
The game has been uploaded to MyGarage.Games and is available to play on Game Builder Garage with the code G-008-BLR-LVM.
A new spin on Super Monkey Ball?
Monkey Ball Garage has six levels inspired by the classic Super Monkey Ball games. The creator @AupTheLunatic remains happy with the result, although admittedly disappointed by the framerate.
The fan-made creation did go viral enough to get some major attention. The SMB official Twitter account retweeted the original post for Monkey Ball Garage. They also followed @AupTheLunatic.
Monkey Ball Garage on Nintendo’s Game Builder Garage does a fantastic job of showcasing the potential for more classic games to be recreated by fans. For those who don’t know, Nintendo released Game Builder Garage this year as a software for Nintendo Switch to allow players to learn the basics of game design. The software includes seven guided lessons to teach players the fundamentals to design their own games.
Going forward, it will be exciting to see how the fan-made Super Monkey Ball game will inspire other creators on Game Builder Garage to recreate other iconic titles. For now, what we have is a game made with passion and love from a talented creator.
Banana Mania mania!
Fans of Super Monkey Ball are currently on the edge of their seats awaiting Banana Mania. Mega Visions has an article detailing everything that’s been announced for the upcoming title that you can read here. Although that game will not be out until Oct. 5, Monkey Ball Garage should be able to scratch the itch for now that fans have to play more of the classic title.
