Resident Evil Netflix series crawls out on July 14

Centered around the children of Albert Wesker, the series is the second Resident Evil show to debut on the streaming platform.

Just within the past year, we’ve already had two new filmed pieces in the Resident Evil franchise; the Netflix CGI anime Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness and the live-action film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Neither one was received incredibly well, but regardless, we have another adaptation on the way that might be more what fans are looking for. The Resident Evil Netflix series, previously confirmed last year, is launching on July 14.

This is far from the first time Resident Evil has hit the big screen. Even beyond Infinite Darkness and Welcome to Raccoon City, there’s of course Paul W.S. Anderson’s series of six films which began in 2002 and ended in 2016. But with a star-studded cast and a storyline featuring brand-new characters, it’s going to be an interesting series for sure.

We still haven’t received a trailer yet, but some teaser images posted by Netflix gives us a small taste of what we can expect. See some of that art below.

Everything we know about the Resident Evil Netflix series

Details on the show and its story have been scarce so far. We do know that the show will focus on two separate timelines; one taking place right before a viral outbreak begins and another one 14 years after the apocalypse begins. The cast includes lla Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, and featuring Lance Reddick as series villain Albert Wesker.

Netflix recently revealed the logline for its Resident Evil series, giving us a sneak peek into what we can expect. In addition to introducing some new characters, it also sets the scene for the series’ dual timelines. The logline reads:

Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.

We don’t know if any other characters from the game will be showing up, or how much the show will even tie into previous games. Regardless, we’re curious to see what this show will bring to the table come July 14.
