Ocarina of Time PC port now available online

A fanmade version of Ocarina of Time featuring HD graphics, ultra-widescreen resolution, and more is now available.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time stands as a critically acclaimed classic in the Zelda franchise. With several million copies sold, the Majora’s Mask sequel, and its Nintendo 3DS release, many fans carry a lot of love for the game. Now a full Ocarina of Time PC port can be accessed thanks to an unofficial fanmade port. So put away that Nintendo Switch, turn on your PC, and get to playing that ocarina!

The Ocarina of Time PC port

Developer Harbour Masters has been working on the Ocarina of Time PC port for two years. What made it possible was reverse-engineering a version of the original game into compiled C code. Similar projects such as the Super Mario 64 PC port were done in the same way, which released in 2019.

Now, fans can freely play the Zelda port on their PC. Though with plenty of features available to the public, the developer promises more features in the future.

Game features:

  • HD graphics
  • Ultra-widescreen resolution
  • Keyboard support
  • Modding support
  • Force feedback
  • Gyroscope aiming

To be added:

  • Text-to-speech
  • 60fps visuals
  • Twin-stick camera controls
  • HD models and audio
  • Texture packs
  • Linux and Mac support

The Ocarina of Time PC port runs on software named “Ship of Harkinian.” Zelda fans should recognize the name from King Harkinian, King of Hyrule and Zelda’s father in the infamous CD-i Zelda games. Download it on the Discord server, but users must input their own legally-sourced N64 ROM for the game. Afterwards, the program extracts game assets, creating the PC version.

By setting their software up like this, Harbour Masters encourages users to support official releases of the game. It also allows for separation between the two in hopes Nintendo won’t come at them legally—which they are known to do, after all. Anyone who can prove they officially supported the latest Ocarina of Time release on Nintendo Switch receive a special role on the Discord server.

Time to traverse Hyrule Field

The Ocarina of Time PC port can be accessed via the Harbour Masters Discord server. They also plan to work on a port for Majora’s Mask. Currently, decompiling the game’s code stands at an estimated 45%. In the meantime, it’s time to download that ROM and start playing your own copy of Ocarina of Time.
