Myst remake available now on PC and Xbox Game Pass

PC and Xbox players can finally relive the adventures onMyst Island with the release of the remake.

Get ready to head back to Myst Island: the remake of Myst is now available on PC and Xbox. Originally releasing in 1993, Cyan Worlds crafted a beautiful world full of mystery and wonder (alongside a whole bunch of mind-bending puzzles). Now, the company has revamped the game for modern consoles, specifically designing it to be compatible with VR headsets.

Notably, this is the first time the original game has graced an Xbox console. You can pick up the Myst remake on the Xbox One or Series X/S via Xbox Game Pass.

Cyan originally designed the remake for the Oculus Rift in 2020. The company later promised a wide PC release and recently announced a launch on Xbox Game Pass on release day as well. All about the Myst remake

Myst has charmed gamers for generations, partially because Cyan stubbornly refuses to let us forget about it. Cyan re-released the game several times over the years, updating it for then-modern systems. While this humble writer still loves the original game (which you can experience on Steam through Myst: Masterpiece Edition), it is admittedly difficult to go back to it thanks to the outdated visuals and puzzle design. The Myst remake, at least, removes that first barrier.

The remake polishes the worlds of the original to a shine, and the graphical comparison is essentially night and day. Seriously, the islands of Myst have never looked better, and we can’t wait to experience them again.

Despite its reputation as a classic computer game, Myst is no stranger to console ports. The original version released for the SEGA Saturn, 3DO, PlayStation, and Atari Jaguar during the 90s. Subsequent rereleases like Myst: Masterpiece Edition and realMyst would be ported several times as well, with even the Nintendo Switch getting a version. This remake of Myst will hopefully introduce this classic game to a modern audience, especially with its launch on Xbox Game Pass.

The Myst remake is developed and published by Cyan Worlds. It is available on Xbox One and Series X/S and on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

Daniel Hein

Daniel Hein is either A) a lifelong video game fanatic, writer, and storyteller just sharing his thoughts on things, or B) some kind of werewolf creature. We're not quite sure which yet. He also makes mediocre video game retrospectives (and other content!) on YouTube where you can watch him babble on for hours about nothing.
