Master Chief and AR Pelican appeared during the Oregon Ducks game

Yeah, you read that right! Halo marketing + 343 Industries and the Oregon Ducks pulled off a unique advertisement during the football game that featured a virtual Pelican from Halo Infinite and 343’s staple mascot, Master Chief, entering the stadium at halftime.

But Master Chief didn’t just stroll onto the field: the band gave him an epic welcome with the Halo theme song to match his entrance. Anyone who knows can agree the song itself is practically an anthem that’s iconic to the Halo IP. Just listen to this, my treat.

While unexpected, the purpose of all this is to bring further attention to the newly released Halo Infinite. So far, the game carries a very positive player review rate on Steam and Xbox, with game critics labeling the title as a successful multiplayer shooter. With this momentum, Halo Infinite made its way to the field of the Oregon Ducks to garner attention with an AR twist.

Master Chief at Oregon Ducks Game

Thanks to the jumbo screen that most massive football stadiums have, the crowd was able to see a virtual Pelican swoop the field and drop a hologram with the Halo Infinite and Oregon Ducks logo. Before long, the Pelican zipped away just as it came into view on screen. I know fans of Halo are excited by this, but let’s also appreciate how far AR has come. Give it some time – we may see more of this at events such as football games.
