Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion revealed

“Boy oh boy, the price of freedom is steep.”

Ever since the release of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, fans have been wondering if its prequel, Crisis Core, would get the same treatment. With the passing of the Final Fantasy VII 25th anniversary, Square Enix brings huge news. Starring the beloved Zack Fair, the FFVII prequel returns as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion

The renewed Crisis Core follows the story of 1st Class SOLDIER Zack Fair. It takes place seven years prior to the events of the original game. While being involved with Shinra’s war efforts, Zack uncovers the secrets behind Shinra as he investigates the disappearance of another 1st Class SOLDIER, Genesis Rhapsodos. Meet familiar characters like Tseng, Aerith, Cloud, and Sephiroth, as well as Zack’s mentor, Angeal Hewley.

Fellow FFVII fans certainly know of Zack Fair, the main protagonist of Crisis Core and a largely important character in the original FFVII. From the looks of the trailer, it seems to be a cross between a remaster and a remake. The battle system looks the same, but the UI seems to have been updated. All the character models received an update and new voice acting, and the cutscenes updated for the modern generation. The OST also got new arrangements by the original composer, Takeharu Ishimoto.

Is there a release date yet?

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion releases Winter 2022. No specific release date has been given yet other than the season. The game returns on many modern consoles, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and even Nintendo Switch. Personally, I’m super excited to see this game getting an update with the expanded world and characters. While we all wait for part 2 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, the prequel will certainly tide us over and give us more VII content.
