‘Big-budget’ Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboots are on the way

Will SEGA revive these beloved titles? Or will NFTs ruin what could otherwise be great?

Bloomberg reported yesterday that SEGA’s secret SuperGame initiative includes AAA Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboots.

Earlier this month, SEGA executives discussed the SuperGame initiative in an interview. According to executive Shuji Utsumi, the initiative consists of multiple AAA titles, as opposed to just one. At first, the reveal that SEGA may also use the initiative as a means to experiment with NFTs discouraged many fans.

However, the reveal of big-budget Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboots may ease fans back into excitement. Unlike other SEGA titles like Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Monkey Ball and Yakuza, these two games remained absent for many years. Therefore, seeing Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi finally get the new games they deserve is a cause to celebrate.

According to Bloomberg’s report, Crazy Taxi is already one year into development. However, it will not release for a few more years. Meanwhile, there is no current word on when fans can expect to see Jet Set Radio return. It’s worth noting that while both games are in their early stages, meaning they could still be delayed or cancelled.

About SuperGame

Although it’s exciting to see Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi finally get new games, SEGA’s overall plans for “SuperGame” remain vague. To this point, we know that the title refers to a label the company is giving to new projects and does not represent a single game. In addition, the company made abundantly clear in their deal to use Microsoft Azure software that they see cloud gaming as the industry’s future.

However, it’s still uncertain to what extent the company will use cloud technology. Alongside that, SEGA’s NFT experimentation, even amid fan backlash, remains perplexing. However, with new games from cult-classic titles on the way, there’s hope that SuperGame may bring SEGA fans something special.

What do you think about the Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboots? Are you excited? Or are you concerned SEGA will ruin these iconic titles with NFTs? As always, share your thoughts with us in the comments!
