Wyrdsong announced from the minds of Bethesda BioWare veterans

“In the crooks of reality there exists two lies. One before the shadow and one behind the eye.”

You likely haven’t heard of Something Wicked Games, the newly-founded indie AAA video game company. After leaving his 16-year stunt in Bethesda, Jeff Gardiner founded the company just this year in 2022. Now, Something Wicked Games announces Wyrdsong, a dark historical fantasy title taking place in the Middle Ages.

Wyrdsong announcement trailer

The Wyrdsong announcement trailer doesn’t give too much away. A raspy, feminine voice speaks: “In the crooks of reality there exists two lies. One before the shadow and one behind the eye.” A lone character stands before a swirling blue vortex, where a horned figure raises a finger to its lips. Then, the flash of its logo.

What does this all mean though? Little details about the game’s actual content has been revealed. According to the announcement trailer description, here’s what we do know: The dark historical fantasy takes place in a fictionalized version of Portugal during the Middle Ages. Wyrdsong’s protagonist will be fully customizable and the game plans to include RPG mechanics, including “combat and questing.”

Who’s involved?

However, Wyrdsong comes from industry veterans that brought many games we all know and love. From the minds of developers who worked on Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Dragon Age Inquisition, and The Outer Worlds, whatever this new title has to offer will surely be interesting.

As the studio still seems very small, the game will likely be in development for some time. Something Wicked Games currently hunts for new talent on their website; if you’re interested in the game design scene, be sure to check out the open positions. This also suggests it could be awhile before we hear anything else about what Wyrdsong actually has to offer.

So, while Something Wicked Games doesn’t have much detail to offer yet, Wyrdsong certainly has an intriguing, mysterious vibe to it. We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled in the meantime!
