WWE Superstar The Miz wants to play Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2

Should the Awesome One play Mortal Kombat's cocky action star?

Could a professional wrestler whose gimmick is that he’s an actor play Mortal Kombat’s martial artist whose gimmick is that he’s an actor? If you ask me, it seems like a match destined by the Elder Gods themselves! Well, that possibility may come true. That’s because WWE Superstar The Miz recently expressed serious interest to portray Johnny Cage in the sequel to last year’s Mortal Kombat movie.

In fact, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin is so serious about playing the part, he already began training. In a recent interview on Ryan Satin’s Out of Character podcast, he is currently working on perfecting various moves like splits and kicks. Miz also adds he took interest after seeing his name trending on social media by fans clamoring for him to play the role.

I have been working on my splits; I’ve been working on my kicks. As soon as I saw that Mortal Kombat was out, and there was no Johnny Cage yet, and my name was literally trending Worldwide No. 1, ‘We want Miz as Johnny Cage,’ I was like, ‘If they want that to happen, I need to basically make sure that I am prepared and ready. If that opportunity presents itself, then I will be ready and focused.’

In addition, The Miz elaborates further, expressing deep passion for doing the Klassic character justice if given the opportunity. He states that after seeing how much interest fans have in him playing the role, it became his mission to provide a true-to-life interpretation of the character. The Miz explains his interest in playing Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2

What we know about Mortal Kombat 2

After the success of last year’s updated movie adaptation of Mortal Kombat, Warner Bros and New Line Cinema began pre-production for the sequel. Although currently, we don’t have much information on what to expect from Mortal Kombat 2, we do know the movie has a new writer. While Greg Russo penned the 2021 movie, New Line Cinema hired Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater to head the sequel’s screenplay.

As of now, we’re definitely a ways off from casting, nor is it certain that Johnny Cage will ultimately appear in the movie. Although his existence in the film universe was hinted at through a small Easter Egg in the first movie, there’s no guarantee Slater will add him to MK 2.

Regardless, Johnny Cage is not only a fan-favorite, but also an original character from the first video game. Therefore, we can certainly hope he makes his grand live-action debut in the next movie. For now, however, all we can do is hope.

What do you think? Should The Awesome One play Mortal Kombat’s loud-mouthed martial arts actor? As always, let us know what you think down below!
