Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown rated in South Korea

This might be the fighting game we are looking for.

Virtua Fighter fans might have their wishes come true. The South Korea ratings board has revealed a rating for a new game in the decades old franchise. Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will be the first console release sense Final Showdown on the PlayStation 3.

As of late, the 3D fighter of choice has been Tekken, pushing the popularity of Virtua Fighter to the side. It is currently unknown if this particular game will be connected to the “Virtua Fighter X ESports” announcement they made at the Tokyo Game Show in 2020.

Akira Yuki

Like Kiryu from Yakuza, characters from the franchise have appeared in 2 titles outside of their main stay franchises. Akira Yuki and Pai Chan make a appearance in Project X Zone while Pai can be used as an assist in Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax.

The franchise will be celebrating its 27th anniversary this year, and after Final Showdown released 9 years ago, fans have been itching for a new competitive fighting game. The last time the series was at a major fighting game event was at EVO 2018 as a side event (along side one of MegaVisions’ favorite games Windjammers.).

In our previous report, series creator Yu Suzuki was asked if he’d return to the series. This is what he said:

“Yes I would like to [return to those]. If you’re going to ask me what, I can’t answer that!”
