The Resident Evil 4 inventory management puzzle has its own game now

Solve the puzzles to manage your inventory of weapons and ammo with Save Room — Oragnization Puzzle.

Have you ever thought to yourself: “hey, you know what would be great? If someone made a game based on the inventory management screen from Resident Evil 4.” Well, probably not, but if you have, your oddly specific wish has been granted. Save Room — Organization Puzzle is a new indie puzzle game that essentially mimics the “inventory Tetris” mechanic of RE4.

The similarities are obvious just by looking at the two games side-by-side. Save Room directly emulates the RE4 inventory screen in terms of look and feel. Every little detail from rotating and flipping items to combining equipment to loading ammo into your weapons is here and accounted for. It wears its inspiration squarely on its sleeve, though it does make things more exciting (and puzzling) with levels not built around the typically rectangular shape of Leon’s attaché case.

Quite honestly, it’s a brilliant idea. And even though it curbs a lot from Resident Evil 4, Save Room is still such a great concept for a puzzle game that it deserves a look.

Fitting everything together in this Save Room game

In essence, with Save Room, the game you see is the game you get. Anyone who’s played Resident Evil 4 knows exactly what to do hear: fit all your items into a case segmented into a grid so they’re not-so-neatly arranged. More so than RE4, though, tightly packing your items is crucial as your case doesn’t have a perfectly rectangular shape.

There’s 40 puzzles to solve in Save Room, and you’ll have to organize, combine, and consume items to move on. It’s a short little game, but one with a fantastic premise and relaxing tone.

Save Room — Organization Puzzle is developed and published by Fractal Projects. It is available now on Steam for $1.99 USD.
