The Pokemon Company had a “record” financial year

Nobody is going to be surprised by this next statement: Pokemon games sell very, very well. Considering it’s the highest-selling media franchise of all-time, you’d expect that The Pokemon Company would make bankroll every year. As its turns out, this past year has been an especially profitable one for Pokemon.

The Pokemon Company reported record-breaking annual profits in a recent financial report. Gamebiz revealed the news in a Japanese article detailing the record gains. Thanks to high sales for recent projects like Pokemon Legends: Arceus and the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, earnings soared far past previous years’ reports.

The Pokemon Company’s annual sales figures totaled around ¥204 billion (roughly $1.6 billion USD) with a profit of ¥41 billion (about $322 million USD) for the period ending in February 2022. According to private corporation laws, The Pokemon Company doesn’t have to disclose all of their financial results. Obviously, this huge news looks great for the Pokemon franchise owner, though, so it’s no surprise that they’d allow this to go public.

What The Pokemon Company’s recent earnings means

This financial report covers Pokemon’s earnings from the fiscal year 2022 (from March 2021 to February 2022). This period of time includes releases like New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Shining Diamond and Brilliant Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It also includes continued revenue from merchandise and the Pokemon Trading Card game.

It’s a piece of good news following more than two years of dour news after the COVID-19 pandemic began. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s comforting to know that Pokemon is a constant in these trying times. Despite Pokemon Shining Diamond and Brilliant Pearl receiving mixed reviews, it sold very well. And Legends: Arceus proved to be a smash hit for Pokemon fans, both critically and commercially.

With a new trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet set for tomorrow, it’s clear that this Pokemon train isn’t stopping. What are you looking forward to the most in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? Let us know!
