SEGA reveals Sonic Origins trailer and release date

Celebrate the games that started it all!

After a recently revealed rating in South Korea teased the collection, SEGA unveiled the trailer for Sonic Origins this morning!

Sonic Origins brings together the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD into one collection. All the games feature fully remastered visuals, along with brand new modes. In addition, you can play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles in all four games.

The retro compilation also allows players to choose between two distinct game modes for each title. Classic Mode lets you play each of the games in their original form. However, Anniversary Mode shakes things up with a full-screen experience and infinite lives. Additionally, you can play Boss Rush and Blue Spheres as well.

Another fun new feature highlighted in the trailer is the inclusion of brand new animated videos. In addition, the games feature new achievements and collectibles, so you can experience the Blue Blur’s classic adventures with fresh additions.

Sonic Origins races out digitally this summer!

Sonic Origins races over to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One on June 23, 2022. In addition, you can also play the game on PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam. Unfortunately, the compilation is digital only, meaning there is no physical release.

However, you can view five unique editions of the game available for pre-order on the official website. While some versions, including any on Nintendo Switch, show a bizarre “coming soon” message, you can learn about what each version of the game has to offer. Some versions come with unique animations, while others come with bonus coins and free DLC. Although unfortunately, none of the editions come with every added feature, you can pick and choose what you want most.
