Ever since the announcement trailer earlier this year, Pokémon fans have been dying to know more about the upcoming Scarlet & Violet. Official information from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company has provided us some updates, but numerous leaks have also revealed apparent details about these games. New rumors suggest that these new titles will remove some Pokémon traditions — namely, fishing and cycling.
These leaks come courtesy of leaker Kaka, whose findings on Pokémon Scarlet & Violet have been detailed in a Reddit thread on the aptly-named r/PokeLeaks. According to their reports, fishing has been phased out entirely and cycling has been replaced with rideable Pokémon — first introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
If this information is correct, it indicates a commitment to evolving the core Pokémon franchise. It remains to be seen whether or not these rumors are true, however. Perhaps we’ll see for ourselves when the next official trailer launches. Until such time, it’s obviously wise to take this information with a grain of salt.
What losing fishing and cycling could mean for Pokémon
Kaka’s information reveals that Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will supposedly abandon fishing and cycling as gameplay concepts. Cycling looks to be replaced by riding the game’s Legendaries (and potentially other Pokémon), while fishing may be gone altogether. We don’t know if the latter has a replacement mechanic yet or if it’s just being overhauled.
If these leaks are true, then it looks like The Pokémon Company and Game Freak trying to evolve the formula a bit. Pokémon Legends: Arceus represented the first step towards this, eschewing many traditions while honoring what makes the series unique. It’ll be interesting to see how many innovations Scarlet & Violet will bring when they launch this November.
What do you think of the supposed lack of fishing and cycling in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet? What are you hoping to see from this latest generation? Let us know!
