Resident Evil 3 Remake may see a new update

An update on the Steam database teases new content for Resident Evil 3.

Rumors of an update to Resident Evil 3 Remake begin to circulate as its database on Steam recently saw changes.

The updates on the Steam database are specifically under the Branches table. Steam states developers use branches to store previous game versions and test new content. Under the table, the label “QA” marks the activity taking place. Fans speculate this stands for quality assurance. In addition, the latest update on the Branches table contains the label “TU1.” This may stand for “Title Update.”

All of this cues fans to believe an update for Resident Evil 3 Remake is in the works. As of now, however, nothing is confirmed by Capcom. While fans hope for a content update, this may very well be a simple patch update.

Since its release last year, fans fell in love with the remake of the classic Resident Evil game. Apart from a DLC featuring primarily cosmetic upgrades, however, Capcom added no new content. In addition, the exclusion of some story content from the original Resident Evil 3 disappointed many fans of the series.

This makes the prospect of a new story update all the more appealing to fans. Resident Evil 3 Remake players yearn for new content with a hunger akin to the zombies in the game. However, with no word from developers, the Steam update is the only hint to go by at this point.

Exciting times for Resident Evil fans

Regardless, Resident Evil fans still have much to be excited for. The mod communities for the Resident Evil remakes continue to fill the void for Capcom-produced updates. One example is a mod for Resident Evil 2 Remake that allows players to take control of the Nemesis from RE3. Another creator is also currently working to make both Resident Evil 2 and 3 VR compatible.

In addition, a new feature film based off the first two games is set to premiere this year. Photos from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City tease what to expect from the new movie. All of this news makes 2021 a great year to be a Resident Evil fan, regardless if a new update for RE3 comes out.
