New SEGA RPG receives teaser trailer ahead of Tokyo Game Show

Aren’t new IPs exciting? Sure, the internet collectively fills its pants with glee whenever we see something new from the familiar faces of Sonic, Mario et al, but sometimes it’s nice to break the inexorable hold the member-berries have over us and try summat original. Kind of like crisps – yeah, you could go for cheese and onion again, it’ll surely be delicious, but why not sample the new, ludicrous flavours they churn out from time to time? (Note: stay well away from Cajun Squirrel flavour. It’s in the white and green packets. Revolting.)

After all, it’s such acceptance for new ideas that have brought us now-beloved mainstay franchises like Splatoon – but in SEGA’s case, we haven’t always been the kindest we could have been to their original ventures. Gems like Rhythm Thief on the 3DS and Ecco the Dolphin were more or less beaten into submission by total market indifference, and that’s just not on, lads. So I think we all owe it to ourselves to have a proper good look at whatever the boys in blue are cooking up for us next, and they’ve already started dangling the proverbial carrot. It’s an RPG. It’s got a cool, sketchy artstyle. And it may be a smartphone game. Ah. Well, two out of three ain’t bad. Take a look at the teaser trailer below.

Looking a wee bit ‘Xenoblade except set near a cataclysmic black hole’ to me. Common theme.

As PSU reports, we know next to nothing about this new title yet beyond the meagre 90 seconds we’re afforded in the video. Devoted fact hunters can peruse the official site which has gone live to try and glean some more info, but it’s looking pretty thin on the ground. We’ll know more at Tokyo Games Show, which is in around ten days’ time, and which SEGA is looking to attend, with this mystery RPG taking centre stage.

Not familiar with TGS? It’s sort of like E3, only not in America, not as heavily marketed, and generally tends to be a bit more laissez-faire with what events they put on. It’s not uncommon to see stage productions or musical numbers be randomly busted out during company presentations, and this year SEGA are going alongside other major studios like Capcom and LEVEL-5. Come on, Ace Attorney 7. I’ll will you into existence if it kills me.

Are you curious about this new SEGA IP? What do you think of the trailer? Let us know!

Via, PSU.
