‘Metal Gear’ designer Hideo Kojima vows not to let his age stop him

Happy birthday to ‘im, happy birthday to ‘im! Happy birthday, dear Hideo Kojima industry legend and designer renowned for bringing us the beloved Metal Gear franchise! *deep breath* Happy birthday to him!

In all sincerity, warm Mega Visions regards to Kojima, who has turned 58 recently. The man certainly has nothing to worry about in terms of leaving a mark on the world; while some of us labour well into our 60s and end up with little to show for it (don’t get existential, don’t get existential, watching Soul was bad enough) Kojima-san has cemented his gaming legacy with decades of creativity and devotion to Solid Snake’s universe. So ingrained into the zeitgeist is the franchise that they’re making a Hollywood movie out of it. Hopefully, one of the good ones – read all about it here.

You can forgive my scepticism, I’m sure.

As GameSpot reports, though Kojima is aware of the physical bodily challenges his ripe age may bring, he’s not going to allow that to put a kink in his thinker. Speaking in a series of Tweets, pasted below for your pleasure, he assured fans his innovative spirit is as sharp as ever: “although my body is failing me, my creativity is not waning yet. Until my brain loses its creative power, I’ll continue to strive to create things. That’s my instinct, and that’s what I love to do. Thank you.” Also, cake was pictured, which is an instant win in my book.

Might want to be careful around Tom Cruise, Hideo. He’s got a bit of a habit of getting sue-happy around folks, especially about matters concerning the packaging of fudge.

Kojima’s latest project is Death Stranding, which is due for a remaster later this year. He made sure to tell fans he’s working on the trailer at present, and instructed us all to keep our eyes peeled for it.

I’m on tenterhooks, me. Can’t wait to see the latest Hideo Game.

How about you? Do you want to wish Hideo Kojima a happy birthday? Any memories of his games? Let us know!

Via, GameSpot.
