Mega Man Live-Action Movie potentially coming to Netflix

Will the Mega Man live-action film actually happen? And if so, will it be good?

Capcom’s classic franchise Mega Man may be on its way over to the big screen. The initial adaption announced over three years ago, but a production team website suggests it may be happening in the nearby future. A Mega Man live-action adaptation seems like it may become a reality sometime in the future.

The potential adaptation

On the website of production company Supermarche, it suggests a Mega Man live-action adaptation seems very much real. Founders Henry Joost and Rel Schulman and in-house producer in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss reportedly “maintain an active development slate”. They have a note about Mega Man written in their “about us” bio.

“Features in the works include: an adaptation of Capcom’s MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, which they wrote and are directing”

This suggests that they wrote the film, but Netflix picked it up as well. Coming to the streaming service after being directed might just happen. While Netflix has yet to make any official announcement, the possibility of it happening seems high by being on the production team’s website.

Will the Mega Man live action find success?

Video games have been adapted for years now, but there’s been a particular uptick in their production as of late. Riot made a deal with Netflix to produce their animated series Arcane, a League of Legends-based show that has received critical acclaim. The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie may have come out with mixed reviews, but still had massive box office success. Pokémon Detective Pikachu came out just two years ago and became the second highest-grossing video game film adaptation.

With all the success that has come from other adaptations on various fronts, producing a Mega Man live-action movie sounds like a good idea. Live-action always runs the risk of not feeling true enough to the original product; some companies may still opt for animated mediums when producing to a television or movie format because of this. However, there is still a potential for live-action to be good, and I wouldn’t immediately write off a Mega Man adaption as being bad.
