Johnny Cage VA might have revealed Mortal Kombat 12 by accident

It doesn’t seem like it’s been too long since we last saw the Mortal Kombat franchise. The last game in the franchise was released in 2019, and we got the new movie franchise in 2020. In the past, developer Netherrealm would do a Mortal Kombat game and then go to another franchise like Injustice. But a curious post has led fans to believe that’s not the case this time.

In a now-deleted tweet, Johnny Cage voice actor Andrew Bowen posted a video with music that sounded eerily like music from Mortal Komat II. Accompanying the video was the caption, “Every deadly technique… and savage combat”. That’s some curious wording!

Why it’s very likely Mortal Kombat 12 is happening.

Now, this could mean nothing. Except, deleting the tweet leads to some suspicion. And this isn’t the first time Mortal Kombat 12 has been teased either. Senior Production Manager at Netherrealm, Jonathan Andersen, had to delete a post earlier this year because his desktop had a file that said MK_12.

It does make sense logistically for Netherrealm to skip on Injustice 3 for now and go to Mortal Kombat 12. When development started on the next title for the studio in 2021, Warner Brothers was unsure about their future. This would get solved late last year with a merger with Discovery. But Netherrealm probably didn’t want to wait for everything to get figured out legally before work on the next Injustice started. I can’t imagine we’ll have to wait very long to find out if these rumors and deleted posts are for a reason.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for all modern consoles and PC. Do you think the next installment of the franchise is on the way? Let us know in the comments below!
