Indie studio starts a petition to encourage a Mortal Kombat trilogy remake

Get over here and make this Mortal Kombat remake a reality!

Indie studio Eyeballistic launched a petition on Change.org to encourage Warner Bros. to remaster the original Mortal Kombat trilogy.

Eyeballistic originally approached Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon with the idea in 2016. While Boon fully supported the plan, publisher Warner Bros. refused to greenlight the project. Their reasoning was that they did not think a remake of the original games would be able to sell over 100,000 copies. In their opinion, the project ultimately would not be profitable.

The indie developers’ goal for the petition is to prove Warner Bros. wrong. Although they created the petition two months ago, it’s now picking up more steam. Currently, over 5,000 people already signed it.

Eyeballistic states that once they reach 100,000 supporters, they will approach Warner Bros. with a plan for the remake. By showing WB the numbers, they aim to prove that an HD remaster of the first three Mortal Kombat games would have a strong backing with good sales.

In the petition’s description, Eyeballistic further elaborates on the details for their proposed game. The remake of Mortal Kombat Trilogy will include all of the content from the original games with 4K resolution and a framerate of 60 FPS by using Unreal Engine 5. In addition, they plan to remake the games’ original soundtracks with real instruments to create a modern cinematic mood.

We’re planning to painstakingly recreate every detail of every stage and character in glorious 3D. Of course every fatality, brutality, friendship and animality will be there too.

Eyeballistic’s Kredentials

Additionally, Eyeballistic’s development team is not only comprised of lifelong Mortal Kombat fans, but they’ve also earned some credibility in recent years. For example, they signed multiple game contracts to produce titles on all major current gen consoles. Additionally, they improved their online rollback with proprietary technology that allows for smooth gameplay across long distances.

To Eyeballistic, the remake of the Mortal Kombat Trilogy is something they feel deeply passionate about. As a result, they aim to expand on the original titles by implementing a smooth online matchmaking system. To do this, they plan to use Epic Online Services. In addition to creating fluid online gameplay, this would enable cross play across all platforms.

Provided their plan comes to fruition, Eyeballistic intends to release their remake of the Mortal Kombat trilogy for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. They estimate a retail value of $39.99. You can learn more about Eyeballistic by visiting their official website.
