Gamescom Event Goes Digital Once Again this August

Gamescom’s initial plans to use a hybrid format for their 2021 showing were ambitious, combining offline and online events. Although the format was well liked, worries with planning for the companies involved has led to scrapping it in favour of an entirely digital event taking place from August 25 to August 27.

With this being Gamescom’s second online event in as many years, efforts to improve the experience have been made with a large focus on group atmosphere. Gamescom Epix is at the forefront of this goal, which aims to use social media to send the community on a joint journey even before Gamescom begins. With prizes up for grabs, managing director, Felix Falik hopes the campaign will “Transfer even more of the unique Gamescom atmosphere to the digital world.”

The digital event also hopes to improve upon elements from last year with Geoff Keighley returning to host Opening Night Live on August 25 through to August 27. Gamescom Now returns, which like last year will host a variety of streams, trailers and interviews, with the service seeing a major upgrade, including a new interface that should make for easier browsing through all the announcements made during the event.

It isn’t yet clear who will be appearing at this years event. However, with SEGA recently confirming their attendence of this year’s all-digital E3, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them show up here as well. Gamescom plans on running between August 25 to August 27.

I take immense pride in my ability to vanish on an F1 Grand Prix weekend. Very good at getting invested in dying hardware (Buying a Vita at launch was NOT a mistake). It is also my sworn duty to ensure every person I meet has played Gravity Rush. That includes you, reader, play Gravity Rush, I'll know if you haven't.
