Atlus Unveils Range of 35th Anniversary Merchandise

As most purveyors and collectors of video game paraphernalia will no doubt be aware, a gaming anniversary simply isn’t a gaming anniversary without a truckload of plastic tat to mark the occasion. Nintendo, Microsoft, SEGA/Atlus, they all do it – want a coffee mug or Christmas tree bauble to commemorate an arbitrary milestone for your favourite series? Or how about a poorly moulded lump of polymers crudely fashioned into the vague shape of a beloved character? No? Well, tough, you’re getting it all anyway. That’ll be forty extra smackeroos, chumps.

I’m joking, of course. Mostly. A lot of the time, fans get excited for anniversary merch, as well they should. For all our love of videogames, they remain pretty ephemeral, digital things, so it’s nice to have something a wee bit more tangible to represent your hobby. After all, you can’t wear your PS5 out and about, not without painting a target on your back to the tune of over 500 bucks, so a shirt’ll have to do. And there’s a reason why toys-to-life series like Skylanders became such hits (temporarily). It’s just cool to have stuff to muck about with when not playing.

Actually, considering what they did to Spyro – no. Take it back. You can have him.

Step up then, Atlus, as they’ve just announced their range of 35th anniversary products. Courtesy of SiliconEra, we’ve got the complete list of them below, so feel free to peruse at your leisure.

A recurring motif in the range, the more eagle-eyed among you will notice, is Jack Frost. Sorry, Dreamworks fans; this isn’t an impromptu crossover with Rise of the Guardians (ha, bet no one else on the internet has ever referenced that). He’s a recurring character, a good luck charm of sorts, in several of Atlus’ games, including Shin Megami Tensei and Persona.

You’ll never see it coming. Unless, of course, you pay for tracked shipping.

Speaking of, the folks at Atlus are currently hard at work on Shin Megami Tensei V, due to release on the Nintendo Switch on November 11, 2021 in Japan and November 12, 2021 worldwide. I know a fair few folks who are pretty stoked for that one, so keep your eyes peeled to all our channels for updates.

Atlus showed off some of this swag in a video posted to YouTube, hosted by a charming lass and a rather alarming Jack Frost mascot sidekick. You can check that out below, at one’s own peril.

Well. At least we know where Scott Cawthon ended up.

Does any of this merch excite you? Are you a fan of Atlus’ work? Let us know in the comments!
