A Plague Tale: Requiem announces release date

Dive into the sequel of the award-winning A Plague Tale: Innocence, joining Amicia and Hugo on a heartrending new journey.

Square Enix revealed the sequel game to a A Plague Tale: Innocence back in June 2021. Teasing a 2022 release date, we’ve been patiently waiting to hear more about this title. In an exclusive Focus Showcase, they showed off an extended gameplay trailer, where they revealed the release date for A Plague Tale: Requiem at the very end. Warning, spoilers ahead for the first game!

A Plague Tale: Requiem gameplay video

Developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Entertainment, A Plague Tale: Requiem takes place after its predecessor. Facing the French Inquisition, the de Rune siblings Amicia and Hugo traverse a dangerous world while on the run. Focus Entertainment showed off the newest gameplay for the game in a recent showcase.

The gameplay seems very similar to that of the first game, but the combat largely expanded. Featuring a lot of sneaking, spying on enemy soldiers hunting you down, and throwing them off your track, the showcase features a lot of new things.

Amicia can now use a variety of weapons aside from sidetracking her opponents. It’ll take more than one hit to take her down in this game; players have the option of returning to stealth mode.  Additionally, now that Hugo travels alongside Amicia, we also have access to his mysterious powers. Hugo control plague-ridden rats and uses an “echo” ability to spy on enemies through walls.

When does the game release?

The wait won’t be that much longer for this dark title. A Plague Tale: Requiem releases October 18, 2022, on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch (cloud), and Xbox Series X|S. Personally, I absolutely adored the first game. The beautiful environment really draws you in, especially when taken over by the horrors of the plague. I look forward to seeing more of Amicia and Hugo’s story and learning more about the secrets behind Hugo’s mysterious powers.
