Wayo Records’ Shenmue music box delayed for several weeks

There aren’t many occasions when Shenmue enthusiasts and music box enthusiasts’ interests will overlap – but Wayo Records’ upcoming product occupies that niche spot right where you’ll find those two particular Venn diagrams French-kissing. It’s an actual, physical, functional music box that plays some of the series’ most iconic refrains, and frankly it looks awesome. I’m always here for more options for listening to SEGA OSTs, especially the ones that are totally impractical for travel (and street cred).

I kid, of course. Who wouldn’t look cool listening to their favourite Disney songs out and about with this bad boy?

All joking aside, what’s not so awesome is that supply issues seem to have struck at Wayo, since fansite Shenmue Dojo announced on Twitter the music box is to be pushed back by a number of weeks. Showing remarkable restraint by not indulging in an obvious pun, the statement reads: “the dispatch has been delayed. They are on the way to Wayo and should be sent out in November. We will keep you posted of any future developments.” The pun, incidentally, would have been ‘on the way-o to Wayo’, but I guess not everyone is possessed of my spontaneity and wit.

Have a gander at the announcement below:

All that’s missing is a little spinning Ryo Hazuki. In a ballerina pose. Make it happen.

The tone of the Tweet is quite jovial, which suggests the delay will likely be a one-off thing and fans can expect to have the tinkling, tonkling little box in their hands sooner rather than later. A cool feature is that it’s going to be totally autonomous – that means no manual winding is required, which is sure to spook any friends you can lure into the room with the lights off. There’s an idea for Halloween for ya.

Anyone interested in picking up this music box? Are you a Shenmue fan? Let us know!
