The Halo TV show will be ‘rooted in canon’, states executive producer

Master Chief will finally do a face reveal!

Executive producer Kiki Wolfkill recently provided new details about what fans can expect in the upcoming Halo TV series.

During IGN Fan Fest 2022, Wolfkill specifically elaborates on the connection between the show and the games. She explains that the new show will take place in a different timeline than the video games. Dubbed the Silver Timeline, the television series will interpret major events from Halo differently than the source material. However, Wolfkill adds that even with the changes, the show won’t stray too far from Halo’s canon.

The Halo Silver Timeline is about giving the show and the core canon room to grow, evolve, and be what they need to be. Really think of the Halo Silver Timeline as being rooted in canon…

In other words, fans can expect the Halo TV show to hit all the key events of Master Chief’s fight against the Covenant. However, certain details of the story will change. Wolfkill later adds that some of the changes come in the form of when story events happen. She explains that in some instances, the show pulls key events closer together than they were in the games.

The Halo TV series shows us Master Chief as we’ve never seen him before.

Another key difference in the show is for the first time ever, fans will get to see Master Chief’s face. Wolfkill acknowledges that this choice may be very divisive within the Halo fanbase. Although some fans are curious to see what the SPARTAN looks like under his helmet, others argue the choice removes a central part of his character.

We absolutely respect both sides of that fence, those who really want to see Chief’s face and those who really don’t. But for the nature of this story, it felt really important to connect with the Master Chief in a different way, and that meant showing the face.
