SONY’s Adam Boyes announces progress on PlayStation requested titles: Shenmue and Yakuza

Giovanni Corsi…will you marry me?

No seriously, will you marry me? This is potentially some of the best Shenmue and Yakuza news that we have received in a while and it is all thanks to PlayStation’s new Third Party Production team.

If you don’t know what I am going on about, I shall provide you with a refresher. A little while ago Sony set out to find out what titles people wanted to be brought over to PS4, PS3 or PS Vita.  To do this, Sony set out a challenge for fans: tweet to Signore Corsi the title of the game you wanted to see brought over to PlayStation and he would compile it into a list while paying attention to the most popular choices. Shenmue and Yakuza got thousands of requests, and now Adam Boyes has explained in an interview with Kotaku (link below) that they are now focussing on these titles.

“There was a massive amount of requests for all kinds of huge IPs that are big in Japan. And those are the ones we’re going after, based on the popularity of the requests… We get a ton of requests for Yakuza, a ton of requests for Shenmue. We see the lists. Like everything that people have tweeted Gio, literally we have a person that compiles those lists and prioritizes based on how many requests we’ve gotten. And I think to date there’s well over 10,000 mentions across like forum threads and stuff like that. So those are the ones we’re focused on.”

This is shockingly good news for us SEGA fans, but the good stuff doesn’t end there.  Boyes goes on to mention when fans will start to hear some announcements.

“I would say within the next six months we’ll have at least one if not a few announcements to make.”
