Sony debunked rumors of a God of War film

Sony has announced in the past they will be making a movie adaptation of Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima. However the one that fans everywhere were hoping for will not be made. In a interview with the New York Times, there is no God of War movie or TV adaptation in development or production.

The rumor started by creator David Jafee as far back as 2005. In an interview with IGN, he stated that Universal Studios was behind it and was unaware of the status of the film. He made the claim even though he said “It’s doubtful that the film will even be made.” The closest we’ve gotten to a feature length film about the God Of War franchise has been two documentaries God of War: Unearthing the Legend and God of War – Game Directors Live both released in 2010.

The series started in 2005 on the PlayStation 2 and has sold more than 50 million copies. With the series being on 3 different console generations, PlayStation Portable, and Vita it’s become a fan favorite. It became so strong of a property for Sony, it branched off into three comic books and three novels.
