Shenmue: The Animation premieres at NYC Comic Con in a virtual panel

If there is one SEGA series that will always have a life thanks to its fans, it’s Shenmue. After two cult classics on the Dreamcast, and the crowdfunded Shenmue III, what could come next in the franchise? An anime? Why not! Announced last yearShenmue: The Animation will premiere at a panel at New York City Comic-Con on October 7th! The official synopsis for the show is:

After he witnesses his father’s murder at the family dojo, Ryo dedicates his life to finding the man responsible — a mission that takes him from the streets of Yokosuka, Japan to the sprawling metropolis of Hong Kong, and beyond. Soon he’ll learn that larger, mystical forces are at play as he trains to become the ultimate martial artist in his quest for revenge.

Shenmue: The Animation is a joint production between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim. The series is directed by Chikara Sakurai. Sakurai has worked on One Punch Man and Naruto. The Animation production is being helmed by Telecom Animation Film. The studio has worked on Lupin The IIIrd and Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation. Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki is also on board for the show as an executive producer.
