SEGA announces Game Gear Micro coming later this year

SEGA of Japan has been making quite a big deal in the past several months over it celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. To date, it hasn’t resulted in a lot of announcements of actual products, but a recent announcement from a Japanese Famitsu journalist that SEGA was going to make a huge, new statement sent the Internet in a tizzy.

Earlier today, SEGA has announced it will produce a series of Game Gear Micro handheld systems that are 40 percent smaller than the original Game Gear with a 1 inch screen. They will be available to purchase on Oct. 6, which marks the Game Gear’s 30th anniversary for about ¥4,980 each (about $50).

In total, there will be four color variations of the Game Gear Micro (black, red, yellow and blue), with each unit containing four different games:

  1. Black model:
    • Sonic the Hedgehog
    • Puyo Puyotsu
    • Outrun
    • Royal Stone: The Door When Opened
  • Red model:
    • Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible
    • Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
    • Columns
    • Shinobi
  • Yellow model:
    • Shining Force Gaiden
    • Shining Force Gaiden II
    • Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict
    • Nazopuyo Aruru’s Roux
  • Blue Model:
    • Sonic & Tails
    • Gunstar Heroes
    • Sylvan Tail
    • Bakubaku Animal: World Zookeeper Champions

It also appears that those who pre-order all four units will receive a “Big Window Micro” attachment that magnifies the unit’s tiny screen. It looks to pretty much be the Super Wide Gear that was released for the original Game Gear.

You can find pre-order links and additional information by going to the Game Gear Micro official website.
