Yakuza creator confirms the series will stay turn-based

It seems that the turn-based gameplay of Yakuza: Like A Dragon is here to stay. In an interview with IGN, Toshihiro Nagoshi and Kazuki Hosokawa confirmed that the plan is to move the Yakuza series forward in turn-based gameplay, while Judgment will move forward with action gameplay.

“The Yakuza series has been transformed into a turn-based RPG. On the other hand, over the years, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio has accumulated resources and know-how of making flashy and exhilarating action games that are effortless to enjoy. We decided that we should let our signature action gameplay live on through Lost Judgment.”

Per IGN

Given the success of both Like A Dragon and Judgment, it makes sense to allow the studio to pursue both avenues in future games. As Nagoshi has stated in interviews before, the studio wants to stretch their creative muscles. While they enjoy the series, they always wanted to keep trying something new.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Windows.

Judgment is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. You can also check out our review of Judgment Remastered here! Are you excited to see both series going forward?
