Rodea the Sky Soldier unveiled at media event in Japan

Prope’s Yuji Naka and Kadokawa Games Hitoshi Hasegawa revealed their upcoming Wii U and 3DS title Rodea the Sky Soldier during a media briefing in Japan today.

The two revealed more details about the game’s story and some of the gameplay functionality. The two said players will have the freedom of flight to fly Rodea throughout the environment, so it doesn’t appear it will be an on-rails style shooter. Also, the Wii U version will utilize the Wiimote as the primary controller for the game to take advantage of the game’s flying mechanics.

What’s more, the game will feature some light RPG elements, like item collecting and some character “growth.” Perhaps more exciting is Hasegawa said the game will feature giant boss battles, which you can see in the first trailer.

Both games will be released in Spring 2015 in Japan, and the Wii U version will also include a Wii port packaged in the box. Unfortunately, there’s still no word if Rodea the Sky Soldier will see a Western release, but perhaps a publisher will pick it up and release it here. Fingers crossed!
