When Capcom first announced the game, fans understood that the Resident Evil 4 remake would only launch for current-gen hardware. However, at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, the publisher revealed that the highly-anticipated title will now also launch on PlayStation 4.
Capcom initially revealed its new project at June’s State of Play event. The launch trailer offers brief glimpses of iconic locations and characters from the original 2005 classic, reimagined for modern-gen. Although a lot happens in such a short amount of time, the video excellently teases what fans can expect. Like Capcom’s remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, the general story of Resident Evil 4 will generally stay in tact.
In addition, the trailer also unveiled the game’s release date of March 24, 2023. Originally, the game would exclusively hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Now, we know it will also crawl out onto the PS4. However, unfortunately for Xbox players who still use Xbox One, there is no official word whether Resident Evil 4 will hit that console.
In other Resident Evil news
The reveal that Resident Evil 4 Remake will hit PlayStation 4 isn’t the only big RE news to come out of Tokyo Game Show 2022. In addition, we also learned that cloud versions of RE 2, 3, 7 and Village will come to Nintendo Switch. This will allow players on Nintendo Switch to enjoy these games by streaming them through the internet on their console.
The cloud version of Resident Evil Village will launch on October 28. In addition, the Winters’ Expansion DLC will hit the cloud version on December 2. In the meantime, however, Nintendo Switch players can enjoy the demo, available now. As for the other RE cloud games, Capcom states they are in development.
The publisher also shared some brand new gameplay for the Winters’ Expansion as well. Along with the option to play in third-person and including Mercenaries, Capcom also showcased new details about the Shadows of Rose story expansion. The gameplay shown off reveals some of Rose’s unique abilities, such as the power to freeze enemies in order to stop them in their tracks and land more devastating attacks. Additionally, we also get a good look at new enemies, including one that can kill you with one hit by literally sucking the life force out of you.
The Winters’ Expansion DLC, along with the bundled version of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition launches on October 28. To learn more, you can also watch the official TGS 2022 showcase below.
