Poney fighter ‘Them’s Fightin’ Herd’ gets rating, might be headed to the Switch

We’re trotting in with a rumor, but who doesn’t like a little gossip? Especially if it involved some fiercely adorable fighting ponies (and other animals), we’re happy to head down that twilight lane. There is a possibility that Them’s Fightin’ Herds is heading to the Nintendo Switch in the near future.

A fighting game based on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Them’s Fightin’ Herds is the spiritual successor to Fighting in Magic. Developed by Mane6, a small indie team, the original idea involved the main characters, or Mane Six from MLP squaring off against each other. Highly anticipated by fans of MLP, that game went through some tough times, including team members departures and a cease-and-desist order from Hasbro.

Them's Fightin' Herds

Unable to continue the project with the licensed characters, Them’s Fightin’ Herds began looking at other assets while still maintaining a fighting game format. It was in 2015 that Lauren Faust, the creator of the current ponies, offered up newly designed characters, unlicensed by Hasbro or any other company. She also became part of Mane6 as Creative Direction.

With new light breathed into the game, the team continued to work on their project, starting a crowdfunding campaign in September 2015. It was completely funded at over $586, 000. Releasing Them’s Fightin’ Herds on Steam and Humble Bundle in 2019, it has continued to grow and add updated content throughout the last 2 years.

Put them fighting hoofs up!

Now, some eagle eyes noticed a recent ESRB classification for Them’s Fightin Herds on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. It has received a E10+ rating for “alcohol references, fantasy violence and use of tobacco.” Receiving a rating is usually a good indicator that a game is soon to be released.

Have our friendly Equestria denizens picked up some naughty habit? You betcha! Fluffy llamas, ponies, bison and other creatures will opponents in a ring like settings. They also face adventure in perilous dungeons. There, they will fight, bears, snakes and wolves, employing their special skills unique to each character. Complete battles and explorations to get loot, like wine and champagne. Who doesn’t love a drunk llama?

It should be noted that the developers themselves would like to see the game come to multiple platforms. However, they have made no official announcement confirming it. So, like Pinky Pie, we will have out party cannon ready in the meantime.
