PlayStation VR2 new features include self-broadcast

Explore new realities with the PlayStation VR2 headset.

Sony brings a closer look at the PlayStation VR2, their upcoming virtual headset. It comes with a variety of features, including see-through view, broadcasting yourself, a cinematic mode, and much more. Let’s check out what the VR2 has to offer.

PlayStation VR2 features

See-Through View

With the see-through feature, users are able to switch between viewing the content on the VR2 and viewing the surroundings around them. This seems pretty handy so you don’t have to take off your headset every time you need to find something. The VR2 includes embedded front cameras, allowing users to press the function button, or use the Card in the Control Center, to switch between views.

*Players cannot use the view for recording.

Broadcast Yourself While Playing

By connecting to a PS5 HD Camera, users can film themselves while playing. If you’re into streaming, this will be particularly handy so your viewers can see how you’re reacting in real-time: no extra setup required!

Customized Play Area

Users can customize the play area for the VR2 via sense controllers and embedded cameras. The sense controllers allow for play area expansion to fit the environment you’re in and suits your play style, and cameras scan the room.

Boundary set-ups give players a warning when getting too close to the edge. Keep you setting saved until you move into a different play area. Settings can be modified whenever needed while connected to the PS VR2.

VR Mode and Cinematic Mode

VR mode allows players to make use of a 360 view in a virtual environment. Content is displayed in 4000 x 240 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye) with 90Hz/120Hz frame rate.

With Cinematic Mode, players view the PS5 System, UI, and all non-VR content on a virtual cinema screen. Cinematic Mode displays in 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate.

When does the PS VR2 release?

A specific launch date for the PlayStation VR2 has not been announced. However, latest rumors suggest a release in early 2023. Sony hopes to share further details about its launch date and additional games coming to the platform sometime soon. As of now, keep your eyes peeled for more updates as we await this next-gen virtual reality headset.
