Phil Spencer keen on reviving old Activision/Blizzard titles like King’s Quest and Guitar Hero

Phil Spencer HeXen

Gaming media is still sifting through all the ripples of the Activision/Blizzard sale to Microsoft. There’s so much to unpack, and most people still barely have concrete answers. So speculation is at an all-time high on a lot of elements. One element is the long-forgotten IP’s that Activision was sitting on. Is there a chance now that some franchises could rise from the dead? It seems Phil Spencer thinks so!

In an interview with The Washington Post, Spencer commented:

I was looking at the IP list, I mean, let’s go!” Spencer said. “ ‘King’s Quest,’ ‘Guitar Hero,’ … I should know this but I think they got ‘HeXen.

Name-dropping Guitar Hero and King’s Quest makes sense, but Spencer flexing his gaming knowledge with HeXen? Even I didn’t know Activision had that? But that’s one of the positives of the sale in my mind. Now Microsoft gets to toy with the idea of bringing back so many dormant franchises. And with Game Pass always needing new games of all genres and sizes, it makes you think anything could be on the table.

So what franchises could we bring to Spencer’s attention? I have a couple that comes to mind! How about a new Vigilante 8 game since Sony is reportedly working on a new Twisted Metal? Or we can get Vicarious Visions back to keep reviving old franchises to perfection. Like they did with Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk

Any franchise in Activision/Blizzard’s arsenal can help Microsoft and Game Pass have a more diverse library. Hopefully, Phil Spencer begins to play with that catalog sooner than later.
