Thanks to this fan mod, quality improvements have heightened the legend of this iconic 90s game!

Before Christmas day, a surprising announcement was made by ROM hacker Master Linkuei – revealing the long-awaited Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition fan hack in all its glory! With a list of new features and quality-of-life improvements for the SEGA Genesis, it eclipses the original SEGA CD and has become the definitive version to date.

Those unfamiliar, Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition has been a persistent fan hack project for quite a while and finally surfaced on Twitter. From the testing efforts of Master Linkuei, BillytimeGames, Chev Chelios, Danilo Dias, and TiagoSC: the improvement hack has come to light with several enhances that pull it ahead of the SEGA CD version. Below you’ll find a short list that explores the surface of the hack changes:

  • New fighting conditions, music, and movements.
  • Graphics made to look more accurate to the Arcade.
  • New animation to Courtyard (monks and tsung claps), Palace Gates (Flame), Warriors Shrine (Flame during Ermac fight), Throne Room (Shang Tsung head+Shang Tsung clap).
  • Added +80 sound samples from the Arcade.
  • Improved gameplay by removing delays to create a smoother experience.
  • New controller commands for various controller types.
