New Mafia game currently in development

As the Mafia franchise celebrates its 20th anniversary, Hanger 13 made a huge announcement in a blog post. General Manager Roman Hladík revealed that an all-new project is in development. That’s right—we’re getting a new Mafia game!

New Mafia game announcement

Here’s what Hladík had to say about the upcoming game:

I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.

Now, we don’t have a specific timeframe as to how long that might actually take aside from “a few years.” The wait for the last main series game, Mafia III, took six years after the release of Mafia II. But hey, as I always say, I’d rather wait years for a good game over rushing the product.

Fans of the series will certainly be interested in the full developer interview, where multiple Hangar 13 developers gave insight on the beloved series. They dive into their favorite characters, best missions, and the history of the games.

Get the original for free!

As another commemoration for the series’ anniversary, the first iteration of Mafia is currently completely free on Steam. The offer only lasts until September 5th at 10am, so be sure to grab it while you can!

The series currently has three different main titles, with its latest being a remake of the original, Mafia: Definitive Edition. Keep in mind, that version isn’t the one that’s free on Steam. Otherwise, playing through the one that began it all might just make you all the more excited for the upcoming game, which we hope to hear more about soon. We’ll also have to keep our eyes peeled for any further 20th anniversary surprises.
