New Cartridge brings 6 classic Gaelco arcade games to the Evercade

If you’re a fan of the classic arcade experience – and let’s be honest, what sane folks among us aren’t – then you owe it to yourself not to sleep on the Evercade. It’s a Nintendo Switch of sorts, if the Nintendo Switch was both not made by Nintendo and existed in the mid-80s (so, actually not as good of a comparison as I started this sentence thinking). The basic concept’s the same, however – imagine having unmitigated, quarter-free access to all your favourite arcade hits in the palm of your hand, sans the selfish other kids who would hog the machines, and double sans the disgusting, sticky joysticks borne of the sweet shop inevitably set up opposite. In short? It’s a winner, and the folks behind it are adding to its already impressive lineup with a new cartridge for the system that contains a selection of Gaelco classics.

Evercade broke the news itself on Twitter, which you can see for yourself below:

Now, I might be missing something here, call me traditional, but… hunting alligators? In the air?

Enshrined within its delightful plastic housing are six 1990s titles from the Spanish company, well-known for pushing the limits of what was considered visually viable in arcade machines of the day, and for their vibrant, highly expressive animation married to tight, addicting gameplay. They had a particular penchant for sports-centric games, which reflects in the package on offer here.

These six sensational software selections comprise the following: Alligator Hunt, Biomechanical Toy, Glass, Snow Board Championship, Thunder Hoop, and World Rally. I’d struggle to name a personal favourite, but purely from the name, Biomechanical Toy sounds like something I can get behind. And possibly deconstruct to within an inch of its life.

Arnold Schwarzenegger meets Alice in Wonderland? Yep, my kinda game.

Do you own an Evercade? Are you excited by this new cartridge? Let us know!
