Namco announces Pac-Man World Re-Pac, a remaster of the PlayStation 1 classic

We’re in an era now where we have an abundance of remakes from PlayStation 1 titles. Klonoa Phantasy Revere Series releases later this month, in addition to the fact the Crash and Spyro remaster trilogies were massive hits. Now there’s another one to add to the list. And this one certainly is a welcome surprise! Namco has revealed Pac-Man World Re-Pac!

The game is a full remaster of the PS1 classic done from the ground up for modern systems. The title was announced during a third-party-focused Nintendo Direct. It will have smoother gameplay, updated visuals, and an improved user interface. Along with general graphical updates included in most remasters from the PS1 era. You can check out the announcement trailer below.

This is a sweet surprise! Pac-Man World was a title on the PS1 I felt never got the love it deserved. It takes the core elements of Pac-Man (mazes, ghost chasing, eating dots) and mixes them very well with the sensibilities of a 3D platformer. Some of the boss fights in it are honestly creative for the time. Hopefully, people will be able to see how much they missed with this new coat of paint.

Pac-Man World Re-Pac is developed by Now Production and published by Namco Bandai Entertainment. It’s planned for release on Aug. 26 for PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. It will come in both physical and digital editions. Are you excited to see this PS1 hidden gem come back? Let us know in the comments below!
