Mortal Kombat Legends gets a surprise sequel in Battle Of The Realms

Direct to video films aren’t always the best. Video game movies are starting to turn a corner, but we have a bit of a way to go. With that context, one of the biggest surprises of last year was the direct-to-video film Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. The animated film was a well-animated and bloody fun retelling of the first game that also gave a little more backstory to fan-favorite Scorpion. It seems the film was successful enough to now warrant a sequel coming later this year! Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms will release physically and digitally on August 31st, 2021. You can check out the trailer above.

The film will see the return of surviving characters from the first film such as Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Shinnok, Shang Tsung, Kitana, Raiden, and Shao Kahn. Joining the fight this time around are Cyrax, Sektor, Mileena, and Kintaro. As for the plot, the description is from Warner Brothers Animation below:

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms picks up shortly after the explosive finale of Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge — the 2020 blockbuster hit that initiated these animated films — as our team of heroes is besieged by the enemy forces of Shao Kahn, forcing Raiden and his warriors into a final Mortal Kombat that will determine the fate of the realms.
