Metal Gear Solid movie in progress, says Oscar Isaac

"We're searching like Solid Snake."

After the Metal Gear Solid movie was announced back in 2020, there hasn’t been much news since. In a red carpet premiere event with IGN, Metal Gear Solid fan and Solid Snake actor Oscar Isaac was asked how things have progressed since the movie’s announcement. Isaac finally gave a bit of insight on the movie’s current direction, saying they’re “searching like Solid Snake.”

Oscar Isaac on the Metal Gear Solid movie

IGN interviewer approached Isaac, asking if he could give the fans any update for Solid Snake and what it takes to prepare for the role. Isaac’s quipped back with a light response:

“We’re searching. We’re searching like Solid Snake. We’re climbing through air ducts, we’re looking for the story.”

So, it seems there isn’t much going on that we can know about. How much writing has gone into the movie, no one can really say. Based on Isaac’s comment, we can speculate they’re trying to figure out what direction to go with it. Given the complexity of the franchise, they’re likely doing their best to make it exciting for old fans and accessible for new ones.

What we do know so far is that Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Kong: Skull Island director, remains involved with the movie. Involved in the Metal Gear Solid movie since 2015, Vogt-Roberts also appeared in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. As a close friend of Kojima’s, Vogt-Roberts aims to make a “the riskier, balls-to-the-wall, Kojima-san version” of the movie.

But that’s all we know so far

Until we get more news, that’s all we’ve heard about the Metal Gear Solid movie. There have been no other announcements of other casting involved with the movie besides Oscar Isaac appearing as Solid Snake. Regardless, I’m excited to see what comes of the movie and what direction they’ll end up taking. Overall, a small update, but an update nonetheless.
