Mario Strikers: Battle League is a new soccer game, kicking off on Switch this June

It’s been 15 years, but the wait is finally over. In the latest Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed Mario Strikers: Battle League, the first entry to the Mario Strikers franchise in fifteen years! Pretty wild to think it’s been that long since Charged? I had to pinch myself. You can check out the reveal trailer below in a tweet from Nintendo.

The game looks to bring the core elements of Mario Strikers games back. Regular soccer gameplay combined with items from the Mario franchise and signature special shots for each captain. What’s new to core mechanics this time is gear. Each piece of equipment can change your character’s stats to better suit your gameplay style on the pitch. Based on the trailer, it looks like players will be able to experiment with gear combinations to their heart’s content.

So what’s new this time around for Mario StrikersBattle League? First, up to eight players can play locally on any Switch like in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Second, online play will allow people to make league clubs that up to you and twenty others can enjoy in a league season. I can already tell those leagues are going to ruin friendships.

Super Mario Strikers: Battle League will release on June 10th. If you want to see the rest of the Nintendo Direct, you can do so here! Are you excited to get back on the pitch with Mario and the gang? Let us know below!
