Made in Abyss video game plunges onto PS4, Switch, and PC in 2022

The game, subtitled Binary Star Falling into Darkness, is the first based on the popular manga series.

Spike Chunsoft revealed screenshots for the upcoming game Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness on its Twitter page. The game, based on the popular manga Made in Abyss, will descend onto the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam next year.

Originally revealed back in May, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is the first game based on the manga. The game features an original story supervised by series author Akihito Tsukushi. Additionally, the cast for the anime adaptation is on board to voice the familiar characters.

Made in Abyss is ripe for an open-world exploration game thanks to its premise of exploring a mysterious chasm. We can therefore expect the game will be wonderous, magical, and just a tiny bit messed up. (By which we mean it’s going to be EXTREMELY messed up.)

Made in Abyss Game Story

What we know about the Made in Abyss game so far

Made in Abyss centers around two protagonists Riko and Reg, a human girl and robot boy living in the town of Orth that surrounds a giant chasm known as the Abyss. The two are Delvers (or explorers of the Abyss) who venture into the Abyss in search of Riko’s mother — a dangerous prospect as ascending the Abyss is very traumatic for the human body. Along the way, they encounter numerous strange, fascinating, and deadly sights and creatures.

Binary Star is a 3D action role-playing game where you play as a customizable Delver exploring the Abyss. Riko, Reg, and other characters will appear, but it’s unclear how tied into the manga’s story the game will be.

As of right now, we don’t know what the game will look like in action. However, a trailer for the game will likely drop next year, possibly alongside Made in Abyss Season 2.

Made in Abyss Game Gameplay

In the meantime, the Made in Abyss anime is also available (region-dependent) for streaming via HIDIVE and Amazon Prime; you can watch the first season and three movies now, with a second season is on the way. BE WARNED: despite its cute exterior, the manga/anime features several scenes of brutal violence, horror, and other graphic content, so watch at your own risk. It’s fair to assume this warning will probably apply to the game as well.

Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is under development by Spike Chunsoft, who will also publish the game. It is set to launch in 2022 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
