LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga gets DLC character details

Words cannot express my complete and total adulation that we are (ostensibly) under a month away from getting our grubby mitts on LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Those of you who read my articles on a regular-ish basis will know that I’ve developed something of a running gag with the game, which has failed to materialise in several announced time frames since its 2019 reveal. “It’s cool that X title is on its way,” I’ll write, “but you know what isn’t? LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.” I’ll tell you the truth, folks. With the April 5th release date now looming? I’m gonna miss it. What will I crack wise about now? Not exactly a whole lot to be giddy or gleeful about these days.

Ah well. The point is, it’s coming, and it looks bleedin’ awesome. Can you blame me for ratcheting up the hype? As someone who’s religiously followed Traveller’s Tales series of Danish-plastic-block-inspired platformers since 2005 (the best ones, for the curious, being Dimensions and City Undercover for my money) this looks like the greatest one ever… well, built. And trodden on, to tremendously painful effect. But never Kragled.

LEGO Movie scene gag.
The ‘S’ is silent.

All nine mainline Star Wars films are represented here, and though seven of them have been rendered in fantastic plastic before, don’t be fooled: this ain’t no remaster. Everything is brand spanking new, from the ground up, with a wholly original engine and open-world-centric focus. It seems massive, with the freedom to zip from Coruscant to, say, Naboo or Exegol in two shakes of a Bantha’s tail. Quests and skill trees are also present, as are branching story paths and the ability to dip in and out of whichever saga entry you fancy. Getting bored of Qui Gon dabbling in Episode 1’s trade route talk? ‘Course you are. Pop on over to Episode 3 and assist with the droid attack on the Wookiees instead, or control Luke as he navigates familial revelations in Episode 5. Just… don’t touch Episode 9. Somehow, it’s returned.

Darth Maul was carved in half and chucked down a reactor shaft, and it still was a more believable resurrection.

What we haven’t heard much about in all the marketing, however, is the much-vaunted DLC. Now, that’s changed; as GamesPress reports, TT Games have unveiled precisely what the galaxy-spanning character packs will contain, and they’re sure to tickle even the most fervent Wookieepedia editor’s heart. “Lucasfilm Games today revealed details of the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Character Collection (Season Pass),” states the press release, “which contains seven downloadable content (DLC) packs with playable characters from across the galaxy – including many from outside the nine saga films.” For those to whom the Star Wars galaxy is the films and nought else, first I’d say you’re missing out, and second, you may not recognise many of the characters on offer here.

The official LEGO Star Wars DLC lineup

Take a gander below, and see how many familiar faces you can spot in the official descriptions:

The Mandalorian Season 1 Character Pack will include the Mandalorian™ and non-playable Grogu™, Greef Karga, Cara Dune, IG-11 and Kuiil, and the Solo: A Star Wars Story character pack will include young Han Solo™, young Chewbacca™, young Lando Calrissian™, Qi’ra, Tobias Beckett and Enfys Nest.

Also available at launch will be The Classic Characters and The Trooper Pack. The Classic Characters Pack will include Luke Skywalker™, Princess Leia™, Han Solo, Darth Vader™ and Lando Calrissian. The Classic Characters Pack will be available for those who have early access from select retail partners and will be available for everyone on April 19th who purchases the Character Collection or via standalone purchase. The Trooper Pack includes Death Trooper, Incinerator Trooper, Range Trooper, Imperial Shore Trooper and Mimban Stormtrooper. The Trooper Pack will be available in early access for consumers who pre-ordered the digital version of the game, and available on May 4th for everyone who purchases the Character Collection or via standalone purchase.

On April 19th, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Character Pack will be available for purchase and will include Jyn Erso™, Bodhi Rook, Cassian Andor™, K-2SO, Chirrut Îmwe, Baze Malbus and Director Krennic. On May 4th, Star Wars Day, The Mandalorian Season 2 and Star Wars: The Bad Batch Character Packs will be available. The Mandalorian Season 2 Character Pack will include Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett™, Bo Katan, Fennec Shand and Moff Gideon. Star Wars: The Bad Batch Character Pack will include Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Crosshair, and Echo.

All I have to say to that is: wha? No Omega? Come on, lads. It isn’t the Bad Batch without her. And why are we lumping Ahsoka in with Mando? She deserves her own spot in a Clone Wars pack! The injustice! And where’s Rebels?! I want Ezra, Hera, Chopper! Apologies, my nerd is showing. Still, I hope that this more diverse range of characters entices some to delve into the, fairly rich, Star Wars expanded universe. Just… don’t get too attached to the Rogue One cast. Why? Uh. No particular reason. Forget I said anything.

The Skywalker Saga is now available for pre-order (on all major systems) for prospective Padawans everywhere, and if you do so, you’ll get a neat minifig of Luke chugging blue milk. Just to remind everyone of that scene another time. Why not?

Is the Force with you on this one? Will you be picking up the hotly-awaited saga? Let us know!
