Hideo Kojima reveals partnership with Xbox for a brand new game

Could this new game be the rumored horror title Overdose?

During Sunday’s Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase, Hideo Kojima announced he will partner with Xbox on a brand new game.

In his announcement, Kojima states that he and Xbox are in the early stages of conceptualizing the game. In addition, Kojima adds the game will incorporate Microsoft’s “cutting edge technology” and bring change within industry trends. You can also watch the official announcement below.

Kojima elaborates on his excitement by adding that this new game is something he wanted to work on for a long time. In addition, he states that because of Microsoft’s cloud technology, he can finally start.

It’s a completely new game that no one has ever experienced or seen before. I’ve waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it.

Could the new game be Overdose?

Although Kojima mentions that it may take a while before the new project comes to be, a leak from last week may cue us into what we can expect. Video game insider and leaker Tom Henderson revealed last week that he saw early footage of a game featuring actress Margaret Qualley. The footage showcases Qualley’s character traversing dark corridors aided only by a flashlight.

The rumored game would be a third-person horror game. Towards the end of the video, Henderson describes a jump scare displaying the words, “GAMEOVER”. Immediately following are more titles that state, “A Hideo Kojima Game” and the name, “OVERDOSE”.

In addition to the original leak, a partial image displaying the rumored game’s logo also surfaced on the internet. While the quality is low, you can make out what looks to be part of Kojima’s name followed by, “Over”. However, this too remains unconfirmed.

Ultimately, whether this new partnership with Xbox is for the rumored Overdose remains pure speculation. However, given Henderson’s precedent for accuracy, signs allude towards its probability. For now, though, we can still wait in breathless anticipation, as we do know that the legendary designer does have another blockbuster video game in store.

Are you excited to see the new game Kojima and Xbox are working on together? Do you think it will be Overdose? As always, share your thoughts with us in the comments!
