.hack series celebrates its anniversary with remastered games for Switch

Immerse yourself with four games in the world of .hack next year!

Another cult following, yet beloved JRPG series .hack reached its inevitable 20 years of age a couple of days ago. To celebrate its anniversary, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. announced that .hack//G.U. Last Recode – with RebirthReminisceRedemption, and Reconnection – will launch on Nintendo Switch on March 11th, 2022.

.hack is a multimedia franchise about the mysterious events inside an MMORPG game called “The World”. The series has explored its lore and plethora of characters through animated shows, video games, manga, and novels by renowned Japanese developer CyberConnect2. While sparking interest as a role-playing game about “real” players inside a game, its compelling storytelling and cinematic appeal made it a notable series to keep eyes on.

The latest saga, .hack//G.U., follows Haseo tracking down a powerful Player Killer named Tri-Edge that killed his in-game friend’s avatar Shino, forcing her into a coma in real life. As complicated as that might sound, the series has retained this common thread of missing people and comatose individuals throughout its years.

Anyone new or familiar with the series can settle into the narrative without feeling lost because of each game’s pacing. But the crux of each is built on action-oriented RPG fights in boxed-off arenas in different environmental zones. A cast of characters is at your disposal to create a strong party while losing yourself inside content, or the various in-game “forums” can eat up hours of your time.
