Ganryu 2 coming to PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox in spring

Play as Miyamoto Musashi and travel through a 17th century fantasy Japan.

Remember the side-scrolling hack and slash platformer Ganryu? You might’ve played it back on the Dreamcast or on an arcade machine in 1999. Well, this retro game is coming back. The legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi awaits you in the 2D platformer Ganryu 2, releasing this spring on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox.

What to anticipate in Ganryu 2

Ganryu 2 follows protagonist Miyamoto Musashi after his victory against Sasaki Kojiro in the first game. While he first aims for a life of peace with meditation and art by settling in Hokkaido, Japan, a spirit contacts him one day.

“Miyamoto Musashi, our fight is not over, I am waiting for you to finish our fight once and for all! All of Japan will pay for your insult! I’m waiting for you Miyamoto Musashi!“

Although Musashi had defeated Kojiro once in a physical battle, Kojiro lives on as a spirit. Musashi realizes he must travel to the island of Ganryû-jima to liberate his old enemy’s spirit. It seems he’ll have to wait a little longer for that life of peace.

Key features:

  • Explore a 17th century fantasist Japan through seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
  • Defeat Kojiro in The Floating Fortress and save Japan!
  • Inspired by the story of Takezo Musashi “The Stone And The Sword” released in 1930’s by Eiji Yoshikawa.
  • Use your special abilities, kamis, to take advantage of your enemies.
  • Dash, double-jump, wall-jump and throw kunais to defeat various enemies!
  • Collect Hanafuda cards through levels.

When does the game release?

Ganyru 2 releases April 2, 2022 on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox. Revisit this classic arcade game to relieve your old retro days and enjoy it in a new, modernized format. It still has that old arcade look and feeling we all know and love.

The game includes a digital edition and two physical editions—the standard and limited. While the digital edition only comes with the game, those picking up the standard version get some additional exclusive artwork. The limited edition includes the game (of course), exclusive artwork, a certificate of authenticity, “exclusive goodies”, and a holographic sticker. It’s limited to a thousand copies total, so if you’re interested, snap it up as soon as possible!
